Welcome to the homepage of the XIGT working group. eXtensible Interlinear Glossed Text (XIGT) is a data format designed to store and annotate Interlinear Glossed Text (IGT) data for use in linguistics, whether by field linguists, typologists, or other researchers seeking to work with this data.

Why IGT?

While electronic resources for language data have increased substantially in coverage, many of the world’s languages are still unaccounted for.

Why XIGT?

While working with the Online Database of INterlinear text (ODIN), we found that despite several existing formats that sought to represent IGT data in a structured format, none were appropriate for the task that we were interested in; of storing multiple annotation layers, from morphology to syntactic data.
